Sometimes There Is Something On TV
on the last weekend in may i went to bad tölz for a tae kwon do seminar weekend. gudrun, katharina, michael and i rented a car and a cottage in lenggries about 10k from bad tölz. since it was the pentecost (or whitsun) weekend, monday was a holiday and we all booked friday off. we mostly planned it as a short vacation with some tae kwon do thrown into the mix. it was a good break.
we enjoyed sunny weather almost the whole weekend and were suprised to see on the friday evening news the huge rainstorm berlin was having.
the grand master Kwon, Jae Hwa himself gave 2 lessons a day for every belt colour as well as supervising the evening mass lessons and demonstrations. saturday morning, the first lesson for the black belts started at 5 am. other than the stress of sitting in a traffic jam for two hours on friday trying to leave berlin, we managed to have a really relaxing time.
on saturday we were up at 4am in order to get to the gym on time for the black (5am) and red belt (6am) lessons - with a little time built in for getting lost on our way. i have a vague memory of us standing in the kitchen all in our white uniform pants and our own sweatshirts, drinking coffee before heading out.
we had two lessons that day, squeezed in lying on a very rocky beach on the isar river, followed by the mass event in the evening. there were over a thousand participants in the arena on the cold cement floor and every school did a demonstration. it was very long. sometime after 9pm we headed back to the cottage where gudrun prepared us extremely yummy pasta with a zucchini tomato sauce. we switched on the tv to find a series of really good short films playing on arte. turns out it was chacun son cinema prepared for cannes this year. a good end to a good day. on sunday evening we forewent the evening event and bbqed.
everyday we got in some time sitting in the sun and swimming. we cooked and ate together, not eating out once. we did buy pastries at the local bakeries. i had the best apple turnover i've ever had. based on my small weekend sample, the bakeries in bavaria outstrip the bakeries in berlin.
monday we had a smooth ride back to berlin and ended the weekend by enjoying a last cup of coffee together at the engelbecken.
i can't complain.

You can't complain?
I think you're just not trying hard enough!
Sounds like a fun weekend, did you learn any "secret" tae kwon do moves that they only teach at these big seminars? Can you subdue a crown of ruffians with a single "super move" (like down-up-down-up-A-B-A-B)?
Kevin, you stole my comment! There, I complained, too. And I forget, who was it the other day who said s/he thought you never complained? Someone who had never lived with you, as I recall.
Glad you had a fun weekend.
