Curiosity

this month is "europäischer monat der fotografie" or european photography month. berlin is one of the participating cities. today i thought i'd go out and wander in and out of some of the galleries that are concentrated in mitte, one of berlin's districts. the weather was miserable today, very grey and rainy but i decided i needed to go out anyway. turns out my umbrella wasn't up to the wind and is now pretty much useless and that the first few galleries i walked by were closed. eventually i ended up in front of the former jewish girls' school which was open and has an exhibition on hannah arendt on. i'd never heard of hannah arendt but the poster looked interesting, so i went in. so now i now who she is. they showed an interview with her where she discussed growing up before ww II, intellectual curiosity and how she doesn't see herself as a philosopher. she also chain smoked through the interview. a lot of the installations featured quotes from her books or people reading from them. reading about the banality of evil and the origins of totalitarianism and my plummeting blood sugar didn't put me in the best of moods.

however i'm still glad i went in. the interview really impressed me and now i'm curious about her and her books.
