On Snow In Berlin, Or How To Sound Like Your Father

if you'd taken the time to shovel it when it was fresh, it wouldn't be so hard to clear it now.

the sound of a shovel scraping the ground is nostalgic. i remember lying groggily in bed, waking up for school, listening to my father clear the snow from the driveway. when he was done he would come back into the house and stomp his feet to clear the snow from his boots. i'd always get my socks a little wet passing through the front hall entrance on my way to the kitchen for breakfast. i didn't remember that until just now.

we've had snow on the ground for a couple of weeks now. although i can remember winters here with barely any snow, berlin gets enough snow in the winter regularly that the city does not grind to a halt when it snows. it did however sit around for a bit before it started to get moved. people were probably hoping the weather would warm up and the snow melt and disappear. recently, i've seen quite a few poor souls chipping through the ice and packed snow to clear their sidewalks. tsk tsk.
